Sometimes life can be pretty challenging. It can take a lot of resilience to survive - let alone thrive - under life’s pressures and responsibilities. My name is Dr. Matthew Smith and I invite you to explore my website to learn more about how I can help you rise to this challenge. As a mental health therapist, I help people find their way.
I believe the most helpful psychotherapy includes a genuine human connection balanced with the artful science of research-proven psychology. My approach to therapy has been described as affirming, focused, and practical so that you make choices that are best for you in the long run and start feeling better as quickly as possible.
Most people seek psychotherapy from me to guide them through personal growth, anxiety, depression, OCD, unhealthy habits, PTSD, and relationship issues. I have learned that people have a natural ability to improve their quality of life and that therapists are there to help facilitate that process. I also do psychological testing for some intellectual, memory, and attention problems.
I provide therapy for a range of adult concerns. I have a particular interest in helping people integrate the seemingly contradictory parts of themselves in a non-judgmental way. That may include finding a helpful perspective on relationships, family, work, spirituality, sexuality, and cultural influences.
For individuals living in the San Francisco Bay Area, appointments can be done in-person, by phone, or secure video conferencing platform for your convenience. Some concerns are better addressed via in-person appointments and I can discuss your appointment options further during your initial phone consultation.
